Think Your Energy Bill Is Wrong? Here Are 4 Signs to Look Out For

An unexpectedly high energy bill doesn't always mean you've used more energy. Sometimes, the problem lies in how your consumption has been recorded or how your charges have been calculated.

Here are four signs your energy bill may need a closer look.

1. Your Bill Is Higher Than Usual

If your energy costs have increased significantly without an obvious change in usage, it may be worth investigating.

2. Your Bill Uses Estimated Readings

Estimated readings may not reflect your actual consumption, potentially resulting in charges that are higher or lower than expected.

3. Your Charges Have Changed Unexpectedly

Changes to your unit rates, standing charges or tariff can affect what you pay, even when your consumption stays the same.

4. Your Energy Consumption Doesn't Add Up

If the consumption shown on your bill seems inconsistent with your usual energy use, there may be a discrepancy worth checking.
